As an ethical and reliable skip hire company that services the communities of Chester, Wrexham, Wirral and all surrounding areas, we take great pride in supporting various local charities and initiatives. So when we heard about the project to bring back the Prestatyn holiday park for the children of Salford, we jumped at the chance to do our bit.

The Salford Children’s Holiday Camp (affectionately nicknamed Jam Butty Camp), and now also known as Salford-by-the-Sea, was a popular holiday retreat for underprivileged youngsters from the Salford area and was first opened in 1926 and is set in Prestatyn, North Wales.

After a £50,000 annual grant from Salford Council was axed, the popular seaside retreat looked set to close its doors for good.

But after a successful high-profile campaign was launched, and a lot of hard work, the holiday camp was saved.

Operating solely on charitable donations and the support of many local businesses in both the Salford and North Wales’ areas, Alan’s Skip Hire provided a skip hire and aggregate solution to ensure the camp was able to clear its renovation waste and meet its objective of supplying holiday breaks by spring 2015.

Marie Hassall, a member of the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp management committee and an alumnus of the original Jam Butty Camp, commented on Alan’s Skip Hire’s contribution: “When I originally got in contact with Alan’s Skips I was hoping for a little help, but they really went above and beyond my expectations of the level of support they could provide and really jumped on board with our vision to bring the holiday camp back to Prestatyn.

“Like many people from the area, I have fond memories of my time spent in Prestatyn and our team wanted to make sure that the children of today didn’t miss out on the experiences we all, and many others, enjoyed at the camp.

“Thanks to Alan’s Skips and their help, our doors are open again and children from the Salford area can once again enjoy the unique holidays our holiday camp provides.”
